Balloon Fiesta - Every year thousands of people go to New Mexico to take in the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta®. The 2016 Fiesta lasts from October 1 to October 9. Each of the 9 days has morning events and 6 days have evening events. If you attend the fiesta make sure to keep an eye on the weather forecast as the schedule can change slightly if there is inclement weather.
The first day starts out with the Mass Ascension where all of the participating balloons launch into the air. This event is truly not to be missed as there are few other places where you can see that many hot air balloons all at the same time. If you miss the first day don’t worry there are more opportunities. For the 2016 fiesta there are Mass Ascensions on days 2, 8 and 9. Plus there is the “Flight of the Nations” Mass Ascension on day 5.
Beyond this the fiesta offers events like laser light shows which are spectacular, also there are balloon races and even chainsaw carving competitions.
General Admission tickets to the fiesta are only 10 dollars per session and you can even get a 5-dollar discount for groups of 5 people. Children whom are 12 years of age and younger get into the fiesta for free. They have several other ticketing options and details can be found on their website (www.balloonfiesta.com).
There is a fee of 15 dollars per car for parking. If you are driving to the location the fiesta takes place at Balloon Fiesta Park. The GPS address is 5000 Balloon Fiesta Pkwy NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. If you don’t have a car the fiesta offers a Park & Ride ticket which can accommodation your needs. If your session is canceled due to rain make sure to hold on to your ticket so you can get in at a later session. Lastly, it is important to note that there is no smoking in the park at any time due to safety reasons.
They also have a music festival where stars such as Chris Young and others will play. There is a fee for the concert and you can purchase tickets on their website.
Vacationers should make sure to book their hotels as early as possible because the local area will fill to capacity because of the large number of people. You can search multiple travel websites with just a few clicks through TravelingWarrior.com by clicking this link (Search For Great Hotel Prices).
